by Day | Ostend with its high tower blocks stands out starkly along the flat and bland coastline of Belgium. Approaching from England one should head for the Kwintebank buoy seven miles north west of the entrance, then head east for a mile and half to the Middelkerke bank buoy north before turning south east for Ostend entrance. | Harbour VHF | |||
by Night | At night all buoys are lit and there is a powerful set of leading lights bearing 128° guiding you into the entrance. Ostend lighthouse on de easternside (FL3 every 10 sec) has a range of 25 miles. | Rescue | |||

Access | Entrance to the harbour is controled by the international port light signals at the pier head but Port Control should be contacted prior to entering on channel 9.
The signals are backed up by an amber flashing light wich means that priority traffic is under way. |
